THE Web Handling Handbook - Now Available Hardcover/E-book/Both

The must-have, 750 page, Web Handling Handbook is now available through Destech as both print and e-book

The Web Handling Handbook is for anyone who has to make tough decisions at 03:00, or has to implement a new process, or is charged with improving throughput and reducing waste, this is now the go-to resource. It manages to bring clarity for those who want a “just give me the answer” book, yet provides the depth for those who want to build their own understanding. – Dr Steven Abbott

Covid-19 Troubleshooting Help

For everyone’s safety, I will be adhering to strict social distancing guidelines for the next few months.  Still, I can help.  I have done troubleshooting at a distance for decades.  I have taught and have written books and blogs and Vlogs on the subject.  We can still help reduce waste, delay and customer complaints.  I offer up to 30 minutes of free phone/email help in return for complete business card contact information.  If you need more, a retainer can be purchased just like we did for onsite troubleshooting.  All you need is a CDA/NDA (if required by your company) and a PO#.  4 hours of help for one plant address for a year is $1500 and 8 hours of help is $2500.

Web Handling Research Center Closes

It is with a heavy heart that I must report that the Web Handling Research Center at Oklahoma State University has closed after 35 years of world class research.  Many around the world regarded the WHRC as the Mecca of Web Handling.  Some, such as myself, made the biennial pilgrimage to give a paper at the IWEB conference.  However, this touches me even more personally.  I was there at the beginning, being one of its first students and first employees.  I received my Ph.D. thesis there before moving on to other employments.

The web handling research center at Oklahoma State University was founded in 1984 by Karl Reid and his first Ph.D. student, Dr John Shelton who some regard as the godfather of web handling.  The center was sponsored by the NSF and other government organizations as well as a consortium of 10 to 20 blue chip, US based industrial companies.  I will try to give a more detailed accounting of the WHRC in an upcoming clip.
